What is Co-operative Education?
Co-ops are programs that integrate students’ academic studies with related field studies and work experiences. Students will have the same teacher(s) and classmates for all courses during the Co-op semester. Acceleration of class material is required to accommodate the time needed for the 100-hour work experience components. Our Science Co-op teachers are Ms. Chen (Bio, Chem, CLC, WEX) and Mr. Sun (Physics).
Science Co-op Courses
5 Courses, 20 Credits, 1 Semester
Teachers: Ms. Chen & Ms. Meier
Applications for the 2023-2024 school year will be due February 15, 2023. Please see Ms. Chen in C214 or Ms. Duffield in the Career Centre for an application.

Former Science Co-op Student Testimonials
My name is Vishwa and I was part of Science Co-op 2022. I'm really thankful to the program as it taught me better time-management skills and an environment to explore study skills that work for me. The program really helped me make more friends as we bonded over same experiences and similar interests for a semester together. In university, I'm planning to do a major in Behavioural neuroscience with a minor in Asian languages and culture hoping to pursue a career as researcher in neuroscience.

My name is Omkar and I was a part of the Science Co-op program in 2022.
One of my favorite memories during the program would definitely be the Work Experience portion. I got the opportunity to work at a veterinary hospital and put to use many laboratory and math skills, as well as gain credible employment skills. Through this program, I was able to identify what study strategies worked for me, and how to use my time efficiently when taking many heavy academic courses. In university, I plan to study human and animal biology, then to pursue a profession in veterinary medicine. |
My name is Ethan Do.
I had lots of fun in the Science CO-OP program but the most memorable moment for me was during our field trip to UBC. It was so different to be out of our typical classroom environment whilst still doing science related learning at an institution that most of us look up to. Given the fact that CO-OP students are with the same teachers and classmates every day, it is like one big friend group which makes going on field trips together just the best! As an honourable mention, this was also very relevant during our few finals weeks. Despite that specific period being very stressful and arduous, after being together all day — every day, there was this sort of feeling of collaboration, teamwork, of studying together and sharing ideas that just made me feel like I was surrounded by a strong support group. In the CO-OP program, everyone puts in the time and effort to get admitted to the program, with that being said, every one is there with a purpose, with similar goals, interests, which fabricates a caring, helpful and encouraging environment. Continuing with the field of science, the CO-OP program really sparked my interest in biology; after volunteering at a care home and hospital during Work Experience, I knew right then that nursing and health care was my calling. |
