Women in Manufacturing
In Canada, women account for 48 per cent of the labour force but only 28 per cent of the manufacturing workforce. For more than 30 years this job share rate has not changed. Attracting more women into manufacturing professions is not only critical to help companies grow and replace their aging workforce, it provides women with careers that are high value, high tech, highly skilled and high paying. To better understand the current realities of women in manufacturing CME released Untapped Potential, an action plan identifying five areas where action is needed in order to increase the number of women in manufacturing:
Women in Manufacturing — CME (cme-mec.ca)
- More female role models are needed to inspire and encourage young women
- Access to modern manufacturing facilities to help change the perception of manufacturing
- More efforts to encourage young girls to pursue an education in STEM and/or the skilled trades
- Businesses need to adopt more inclusive workplaces
- Business need to find creative ways to improve work-life balance for employees.

Green Jobs
To meet society’s needs without compromising the future, we must transform and decarbonize BC’s carbon intensive sectors. Encouraging our youth to pave a green career path will be the key to this transformation. Our planet’s future lies in the hands of our youth.
This two-part toolkit was developed by a team of dedicated youth volunteers passionate about green jobs and creating a greener future for all, with support from the BC Council for International Cooperation (BCCIC). Based on the experience and insights from professionals in green career fields and conversations with fellow youth, our team of volunteers created a toolkit for BC secondary school educators who can support students as they explore the multitudes of green career and educational pathways. The contents of this toolkit consists of a how-to pave a green career path, the top five growing green sectors in BC and additional resources such as a green jobs database, green jobs matching quiz, green job resources and lesson plans. We hope this toolkit increases the number of secondary students learning about the viability of green jobs and deciding to pursue environmental career pathways post secondary school.
